Askern Children Name Diggers at New Homes Development
Posted on 13 March 2025

An Askern primary school has received a donation of £250, from local housebuilder Avari Homes, to purchase books in support of the annual World Book Day event.

Askern Moss Road Infant Academy, part of Leger Education Trust, received the donation from the housebuilder ahead of the unveiling of its latest development, Millside Lakes, just a stone’s throw from the school.

“World Book Day is a superb event which highlights the importance of reading to children, and we are delighted to be able to make a small donation to this school to purchase more books for children to enjoy,” said Natalie Moore, Sales and Marketing Manager, Avari Homes. “Research has shown that by encouraging a love of reading from a young age, children often perform better at school and into adult hood as an established reading and learning pattern is created.”

The donation for World Book Day is part of a wider engagement programme between the housebuilder and the school, which will also see the housebuilder visit the school to talk to children about construction site safety.

Headteacher at Askern Moss Road Infant Academy added; “Our thanks go to the Avari Homes team for working with us and helping our children access additional reading materials.

“We shall look forward to a return visit in the coming weeks when our children, and those at Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy will learn about how the housebuilder keeps its team safe at work and also why construction sites are not to be seen as places to explore for our children.”

Additionally, the children are currently helping the housebuilder name its three diggers at the development in an exciting competition being held at both schools.
